The Homeless Outreach Population Estimate (HOPE) is the annual survey conducted by the New York City Department of Homeless Services. The success of HOPE is dependent on New Yorker’s volunteering. This year HOPE is looking for 2,500 New Yorkers to canvass parks, subways, and other public spaces to count the number of homeless people in the City.
Volunteers are strategically sent throughout the City to provide the most accurate estimate of our Homeless population. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development considers NYC’s method of counting the homeless to be the most accurate in the nation.
HOPE 2009 is still looking for volunteers in the Bronx, Queens, and Staten Island.
