In a city known for its pies and slices, the Upper West Side has long been a desert for pizza-lovers. At long last, Angelina Pizzabar is here to change that. I’ll admit it was not without trepidation that I tried this new pizzeria with a wine-bar vibe. Having been disappointed in the past, we hesitantly arrived at 104th and Broadway on a Sunday night to a packed restaurant which had only opened its doors 10 days before. This glimmer of hope was brightened by the delightful smells that greeted us as soon as we stepped inside. The space, larger than it appeared from outside and decorated with a warm, rustic yet modern feel, stretched back past a wide wooden bar. A wood-fired pizza oven glowed from a far corner, amply staffed by several pros tossing pizza dough in the air.

Gotham Pizza is an unassuming and surprisingly delicious pizza place hidden in Chelsea on the corner of 19th street and 9th avenue. If you’re in the neighborhood stop by for what must be the best slice in the area. You won’t find a greasy calzone, cheap minestrone soup or bland pasta on the menu. No, the people at Gotham Pizza do one thing and one thing well, slices. They proudly announce the use of Real Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese on every slice and they mean it. The crispy crust might be the best and unique features of the slice.

Regular slices start at $2.50 with additional toppings for .75 cents.

A very affordable price Considering the quality of pizza Gotham Pizza is serving up.
